Laos – Mr Big Muscle, Luang Prabang

Mr Big Muscle Fitness is nestled away on Kingkitsarath Road in Luang Prabang. Public transport is pretty much non-existent but you can get a taxi, hire a scooter or even just walk to the gym from Luang Prabang centre.

It’s pretty hard to miss as has no door but just a big open front which I think makes for a good workout as its not stuffy like some Asian gyms which smell like feet with just an air fan to blow the feet fragrance square in the face whilst training, its hard tiled floor is not ideal for any meatheads looking to smash weights off it, but like other Asian gyms the dumbbells do not run too high, only to 25kgs. It’s a modest size gym with a small shower room and changing upstairs and was mostly locals using when I was there. It has smith machine, cable crossover, some old-fashioned accessories machines and dumbbell rack, so you can get from it what you put into your session. I must admit this gym was a bonus as I did not expect there to be any gym at all in this small Parisian style town.

Would recommend going if you’re in town to this modest old-fashioned, no-frills gym as will suit any fitness purpose.

NB – The staff did want to charge a little extra for using the treadmill I overheard so be prepared for that, but if your anything like me, who the hell wants to run on a treadmill when you an chase the Mekong river then return to the gym to train.

No shower when I was there (may have changed)
